Scout knife
A great companion knife. This knife is worn, not carried.
This 3 inch blade is a compact knife that fits nicely on your belt, you forget you are wearing it. Designed to fit inside your had with your finger near the blade tip, you know where your sharp bits are when working inside the gut cavity. Safe and nimble, this knife is what I take hunting with me 80% of the time.
- AEBL Stainless steel or 15n20 High Carbon steel.
- Handles can be wood, or synthetic.
- Wet-molded, wax dipped leather sheath - or kydex
- Price between $250-350 NZD, depending on materials and decorative work.
This is my "go-to" knife for hunting now. I like its size. For 2 years, I had a Stainless steel one, but I have gone back to 15n20 High Carbon. I like the fact that High Carbon requires maintenance and that it forms a patina over time... these leave a legacy that says "I hunted with this knife", Stainless looked brand new after 2 years.
Although on paper, AEBL is an excellent knife steel, I have found 15n20 to perform better.
