Skinning knife

I finally broke tradition !

Not the traditional Sheppard Knife that New Zealanders expect.  This 2 inch blade knife puts the working part of the knife closer to your hand.  Ergonomically, this reduces stress on your wrist, and gives you more control so you are less likely to cut through the skin.  Try it once and I am sure you will realise the advantages.  because of the design, the sheath is not a snug fit, but this one shouldn't be on your belt while hunting.

  • AEBL Stainless steel or 15n20 High Carbon steel.
  • Handles can be wood, or synthetic.
  • Friction fitted, leather sheath
  • Price between $150-200 NZD, depending on materials.

I made this knife, almost by accident and asked an old mate to test it out for me.  He came back after the weekend and said it was the best skinning knife he had ever tried.  It took me a year to try it for skinning myself, and I have to say.. it is AWESOME.  I can do 3 fallow deer with just a quick strop as I go.  I cut through the skin less.

I find that the 'older' hunters look at this knife and say "That is all the knife I need" and generally buy it without extra thought.  Give it a go, if you don't like it, I'll buy it back !

My smaller knife (so much smaller) is a delight to use.
